WELCOME
New York Opera Forum was founded by Richard Nechamkin in 1983 to give classically trained singers the opportunity to learn and perform standard operatic repertoire in the original languages.
We work with singers on all levels, from student to professional, providing quality training and performance opportunities for a reasonable fee.
ABOUT RICHARD
When Richard Nechamkin was 5 years old, his parents asked whether he preferred tickets for the Mets or the Met. It was a tough decision for a kid who loved both baseball and music, but he chose the latter.
Today, Mr. Nechamkin is a Conductor, Pianist and Vocal Coach with over 25 years of experience. For the past 18 years he has been Music Director and Conductor of New York Opera Forum, an opera workshop he founded to give classically trained singers the opportunity to learn and perform operas uncut and in their original language.
Throughout the 1980s, Mr. Nechamkin conducted the Y Sinfonietta, a 45 piece orchestra based in Flushing, NY. He programmed works by Stravinsky, Mozart, Varese, Haydn, Schoenberg, Ligeti, Verdi, Puccini, Schubert, Beethoven, Mascagni, Dvorak and Wagner, and presented 4 World Premiers including Robert Rollin's "Song of Deborah" and the American Premiere of Jean Français’ Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra. During that time he also served as guest conductor of the Atlantic Chamber Orchestra, a 25 piece ensemble consisting of members of the Philadelphia Orchestra.
